SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) —  Police are investigating one of several overnight armed robberies in Springfield.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that just after midnight, officers were called to the Tedeschi Food Shop at 266 Belmont Avenue after a report of a robbery.

The clerk told officers that while he was filling a cooler, someone entered the store, pulled out a handgun, demanded cash, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

K-9’s were brought in and were able to track the suspect to Belmont Avenue and Keith Street, where Delaney notes that investigators believe the suspect got into a car.

Delaney says that the clerk described the suspect as a black male, about 5′ 8″ tall, and a slim build. He was last seen reportedly wearing a pea coat and a burgundy colored scarf.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Springfield Police at (413) 787-6355 or ‘Text-A-Tip’ to CRIMES (274637) and in the message type SOLVE and our tip.
