Worker Injured at Deerfield Railroad Yard

DEERFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A worker was flown by medical helicopter to a Springfield hospital after being injured Tuesday.

Deerfield Police Sgt. Harry Ruddock says that around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, emergency crews were called to the Pan Am rail yard off of River Road following the report of an injured worker.

Upon arrival, they found that a 43-year-old employee was suffering from what Ruddock describes as “lower extremity injuries” that occurred while that person was working among the rail cars and locomotives.

Ruddock notes that the employee was treated at the scene and was then flown by LifeFlight to Baystate Medical Center.

The employee’s condition is not immediately known, nor has that person’s name been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
