Local Women Chosen as American Heart Association Ambassadors

go red ladiesSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – February is American Hearth Month and on Friday night, the American Heart Association painted the town red at the Basketball Hall of Fame.

A dozen local women were chosen to be ambassadors to spread awareness about heart disease in women. Their names were revealed during the unveiling of the “2014 Go Red

Leading Ladies of Western Mass” poster that will now travel throughout the community.

“It was a really good opportunity. We’re all from different parts of Western Mass and none of us really know each other and we all have different careers and lives that are affected by heart disease,” said Angela Smith, a Go Red ambassador.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S. Next Friday, February 7, is national Wear Red Day to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease in women.
