Chance of a Few Showers for your Sunday Afternoon

We are waking up to mostly cloudy skies this morning and the clouds will stick around through the day. There is a cold front off the our west and as it moves through the area later today we could see the chance of a few afternoon showers. It will be a mild day with temperatures in the low to mid 40s. Not bad for the second day of February. Skies will remain mostly cloudy tonight and temperatures will fall back into the mid to upper 20s.

As we head into Monday a storm system will pass to our south but it will just give us the slight chance of seeing a few flurries. A few inches of snow are likely down towards New York City, but across Western Mass we’ll be too far north to see significant snowfall. Highs will be in the low to mid 30’s during the day.

Tuesday looks very nice as we’ll see mostly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 30’s. A storm system will approach the area during the day, increasing cloud cover by the evening hours. Models are in agreement that we will likely see a significant snowfall late Tuesday night through Wednesday. Depending on how much sleet and freezing rain falls during the storm, anywhere from 4″ and 12″ may fall. It will all depend on if the precipitation remains all snow. Of course, we’ll keep you updated!

Groundhog Day: Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning and traditionally that means six more weeks of Winter. Today marked the 101st time Phil has seen his shadow. Phil has been right with his forecast 39% of the time.

Super Bowl Weather: Sunday in the NYC area will feature a few sprinkles or light showers during the day but ends up mainly dry. It will be mild with temperatures climbing to near 50 for highs. It becomes breezy (if not windy) during the afternoon and stays that way through the evening with speeds between 10-25 mph. Temperatures by early evening will be falling into the lower and middle 40s (so still rather mild) and should reach the upper 30s by games’ end. My prediction for the game is Denver 27, Seattle 24.

Have a great day!
