Independent McCormick Launches Campaign for Governor

Mass-Beacon HillBOSTON (AP) — Boston venture capitalist Jeff McCormick has officially launched his independent campaign for governor.

McCormick said in a campaign video released Tuesday that his priorities will be economic growth and creating jobs. He said he would work to cut waste and streamline the state bureaucracy.

As an independent governor he said he would put problem-solving ahead of politics.

McCormick founded the investment venture capital firm Saturn Partners in 1993. McCormick loaned his campaign $150,000 of his own money last year according to state campaign finance records, and had a year-end balance of about $45,000 in his account.

Five Democrats, two Republicans and two other independent candidates, Evan Falchuk of Newton and Scott Lively of Springfield, are also running to succeed Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick, who is not seeking re-election.
