MassDOT Continues Work to Clear the State’s Roadways

REGION (WGGB) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is hitting the streets hard, trying to stay ahead of the snowfall.

Early Tuesday, MassDOT had more than 1,000 pieces of equipment on the roads, working to clear and sand as much as they could.

That number of trucks increased to about 3,400 trucks as the noon-hour neared.

MassDOT Highway Administrator Frank DePaola that those crews continue to work to keep the roads clear. On the state’s highways, he says that, so long as the snow is falling, there will likely be slush on the roads.

Once the snow ends, DePaola notes that crews will be able to more adequately clear the roads and work to get back to bare surfaces.

Transportation officials are still urging motorists to stay off the roads if possible, and if you must go out, allow extra time and take it slow.
