Mayor Sarno Detailed Ramped Up Snow Preparations

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — Amid a large snow storm, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says the city has had to step up its preparations for Wednesday’s storm.

Mayor Sarno gathered Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. with the city’s storm team to begin preparations for the snow, much like the DPW and road crews across the area.

They then reassembled at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday as the snow began to fall to get ready for what would be long day of shoveling out.

“Here’s the key,” Sarno added on 40 in the Morning Wednesday, “the duration and timing of this storm is terrible. If you don’t have to drive, please don’t be out there, very difficult, treacherous driving conditions.”

Sarno stressed the importance of staying clear of DPW trucks and avoiding getting ticketed or towing, as several parking bans in effect.

“You look what happened in Atlanta, we don’t want anyone to get stranded,” Sarno added.

Trash pick-up will go on as scheduled on Wednesday.
