Snow Continues This Morning; May Mix With Sleet In Some Areas
Snowfall Amounts So Far: Westfield: 5″; Ludlow: 4″; Russell: 4″; Springfield 4″; Huntington: 3″
It’s going to be a very tricky morning commute as heavy snow will be falling. If you don’t have to, please hold off on traveling until at the very earliest 2-4 pm.
We are in the midst of a significant winter storm across Western Mass! Snow moved into the area around 4 AM and will be steady and heavy through the morning hours. Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour are likely through 1 pm. By around 8-10 am, the snow may mix with or even change over to sleet and/or freezing rain south of the Mass Pike. This will cut down on snow totals in these areas.
Areas north of the Mass Pike will remain as mostly snow and there snowfall totals will be greatest. In Springfield and surrounding areas, expect a general 6-8 inches. 8-12 inches can be expected in Northern Hampden, Hampshire, Berkshire, and Franklin counties. I wouldn’t be surprised to an isolated 13 or 14 inch amount across the hill towns of Berkshire, Franklin, and Hampshire counties.
Most of the snow and sleet will be done with by 2-4 pm. A few light snow showers will still be possible through around 7 pm as the storm exits the area.
Quieter weather and colder temperatures will follow for Thursday. Highs will only be in the low to mid 20′s!
