Motorists Find Coating of Packed Snow on Many Western Mass. Roadways

(WGGB) – The roads in Western Mass. are primarily snow covered, which is making traveling a little difficult.

ABC40′s Brendan Monahan headed north to Hadley. He reports that Route 9 was covered in snow, but it also appeared that motorists appeared to heed warnings to stay inside, as there weren’t many cars on the roadways.

Keep in mind, this is a long duration storm. You’ll want to give yourself plenty of time if you’re heading off to work this morning, and make sure you do the same later on as you head home. This storm will cause problems for several commutes, including the morning commute Friday.

If you do have to head out, take it slow, be aware of slippery spots, and keep in mind reduced speed limits on the Mass. Pike, where the speed limit has been dropped to 40 miles per hour.

I live in Ware, on a hlll and went out at 7 am.
It was already slippery at that hour. I drove slowly, but still fish tailed a little. Thankfully, I have an alternate route to get home that doesn’t include a hill. My personal advice, If you are not an experienced driver in this weather and don’t have an emergency, stay home. It’s not worth the risk to yourself, or others you might slide into.
Keep smiling, Spring is just 35 days away! :)
