State Recommends New Charter School for Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Springfield may soon get a new charter school.

Mass. Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester announced Friday his recommendation for the proposed Springfield Preparatory Charter School.

The new school would serve 486 students in kindergarten through 8 and, according to the state, will focus on ” literacy development and character education within a structured and rigorous learning environment.”

The recommendation goes before the board of education on February 25.
