A Fine, February Afternoon!

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB)- It’s beautiful out! The sun will shine into the mid-afternoon before clouds start to mix in, but even still we are looking at a nice afternoon! We’ll continue to see plenty of melting snow with highs reaching into the middle 40′s. Sunshine will fade to clouds late this afternoon but overall today is looking good!

A developing storm across the nations mid-section will throw a piece of moisture into western Mass this evening, and the atmosphere will be just cold enough to produce a wintry mix. We’ll see a burst of snow & mix across the area that will taper off to freezing drizzle overnight. Temperatures will settle near freezing into tomorrow morning. Because of this, The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Western Mass. from 9 pm this evening through 10 am tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning’s commute could be a bit icy in spots as temperatures stay in the 30′s for most of the morning.  A larger storm will be making its way into eastern Canada during the day tomorrow. This storm’s associated cold front will swing through the area tomorrow night. Out ahead of this front a line of showers and downpours will move through tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening.  As the front approaches, the winds will pick up and temperatures will become mild, reaching well into the 40′s perhaps close to 50 into the evening. The heavy downpours, thick snow pack and melting snow will lead to street flooding and ponding on roadways, especially during the evening commute.

The front will swing through in time for the weekend helping to dry us out.  Temperatures, even behind the fron, on Saturday will be well up into the 40′s making for a nice day! Sunday may feature a few more clouds but the colder air to the west will only, slowly move in so temperatures should still make it above 40.

Do not get use to the milder weather, it looks as though we go right back to a cold, winter-like pattern  next week! February (Meteorlogical winter) will be coming to a close with yet another blast from Old Man Winter!

Have a great day!
