SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Our friends at T.J. O’Connor deal with all kinds of animals, but this week had a very unique challenge.

They were called to the basement of a building under renovation in downtown Springfield to rescue a Cooper’s hawk.

TJO Animal Control Officer Erick Velez says the hawk was in the basement for two or three days. He adds, “I just netted him and I just put a towel over him, just to not freak him out, grabbed him, put him in a crate, brought him here. He actually appears really well. He’s lying down right now, but he actually appears to be doing really well.”

Velez says the hawk will be turned over the TJO’s raptor specialist and should be back in the wild within a week.
