Heroes Is Back! NBC Orders Event Series for 2015
by Liz Raftery
NBC is resurrecting Heroes as an event miniseries, the network announced Saturday.
Similar to Fox’s 24 reboot, Live Another Day, the planned miniseries Heroes Reborn will consist of a 13-episode stand-alone story arc. The episodes will air in 2015, and NBC will launch a digital series ahead of the premiere to introduce new characters and storylines.
Series creator Tim Kring will return to helm the miniseries, though casting news and other information are being kept under wraps for now. “Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in,” NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in a statement.
Heroes, about a group of regular people who discover they have superpowers, debuted to great success in 2006 before floundering in later seasons and ending in 2010. The original cast included Hayden Panettiere, Zachary Quinto and Milo Ventimiglia.
“The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” Salke said. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment.”
