State Plans Hearings on Electric Utilities’ Future

power outageBBOSTON (AP) — The state Department of Public Utilities is planning to hold a string of public hearings to explore grid modernization in Massachusetts by the state’s electric utilities.

The hearings begin Monday.

A morning hearing looks at advanced metering and the requirement to achieve advanced metering functionality in three years.

An afternoon hearing includes a discussion of how to best adopt new technologies related to the utilities’ research and development activities.

The hearings are set to continue through Thursday and include discussions on the timing of the grid modernization process, cybersecurity and the potential health and safety effects of advanced meters and related technologies.

The hearings are scheduled to take place at the Department of Public Utilities, One South Station in Boston. The hearings are open to the public and will occur in hearing room A.
