Tornado Warnings Force Evacuations at Daytona 500

DAYTONA EVACUATIONDAYTONA BEACH, Florida (WGGB) — Fans, racers, and pit crews were evacuated from the Daytona 500 and told to take shelter due to a tornado warning for Daytona Beach.

Loud thunder and bright lightening sent many from their seats, as they were all encouraged to take shelter in their cars if possible.

While the race was under a red flag due to ongoing showers, the tornado warning came. The cars were covered and the race put on hold.

Though NASCAR’s biggest race is normally held on the third Sunday of February, it may, for the third time in the last four years, be finished on Monday.
