Girls High School Basketball Playoffs Hit the Valley
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — One of the great parts of high school sports is that, come the postseason, no matter the division, the location, or the sport, the atmosphere is fantastic.
Monday, the girls basketball postseason schedule featured a strong slate of match-ups.
In South Hadley, the Tigers took on Southwick in a Division III playoff. South Hadley went on to beat the Rams 66-32.
South Hadley will host Athol in the next round.
In a Division IV match-up, Holyoke Catholic took on Franklin Tech. The Gaels would go on to beat Franklin Tech 36-24 in front of their home crowd.
Heading north to Hatfield, as Smith Academy took on Mount Everett. Down with two minutes left in regulation, Smith would come back to sent the game into overtime.
In the extra frame though, Mount Everett’s Gwen Carpenter would open things up and help lead her team to a 53-51 win over Smith in overtime.
Mount Everett will now face top seed Quaboag.
Staying in Hampshire County, Hopkins Academy took on Pathfinder in Hadley and the game all Hopkins, as they roll on to a 64-28 win.
Hopkins advances to face Holyoke Catholic on Thursday.
