Chicopee Outlasts South Hadley in Two Overtimes

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Nick Jablonski’s third goal of a hat trick lifted Chicopee past South Hadley in the quarterfinals of the Division III-A hockey tournament on Wednesday. Chicopee advances to face top seed Greenfield on March third in the semifinals. It is the Pacers first win over South Hadley since 2008.

Things seemed bleak for the Pacers after a falling behind 2-0 entering the second frame. The offense would erupt, however, logging five goals in the team’s highest scoring period of the season with Jablonski netting a pair. The Tigers would respond cutting a 5-3 deficit to 5-4 heading into the final period.

Evan Sullivan would even the scoring up at 5-5 with his goal at the 5:45 mark in the third. After each team having opportunities to gain the edge in the fourth and first overtime, the game would head to a second extra session.

Following a errant shot, Jablonski was able to make something of the scrum and net the game-winner past Devin Hoagland to advance the Pacers to the next round.

Hoagland finished with 37 saves on 43 chances for South Hadley.
