Youth Girls Hockey Team Breaks Ground in Western Mass

girls youth hockey

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB)– As most winter sports begin to wind down, one local team is just getting started.

For the first time in Western Mass. youth girls will have a league all of their own. The Western Mass Blizzard is a u-14 girls team that allows young female athletes to prepare for high school hockey, without playing on an all-boys league.

While all-girls youth teams are popular in the eastern half of the state as well as Connecticut, this is a groundbreaking experience for members of the Blizzard. It’s something even these middle school girls realize is special.

ABC40′s Kainani Stevens has more.

WGGB encourages readers to share their thoughts and engage in healthy dialogue about the issues. Comments containing personal attacks, profanity, offensive language or advertising will be removed. Please use the report comment function for any posts you feel should be reviewed. Thank you.

No BIG smiles? Oh yeah, no teeth, I forgot it’s Westfield, no hockey stick needed, inbreeding has limited most of the populace to 3 or 4 teeth anyway.

Ed you have never impressed me, your comments and actions have always been a let down. Now you have taken the cake of stupidity by attacking children who are starting a league to play hockey. I should have hugged you more.

This article and news has incorrect facts. There has been a league for girls for a long time. WTM had a girls team about 10 years ago who played out of Holyoke MA. Springfield Pics had multiple girls teams that played in the New England Girls Hockey League and they played out of Holyoke and Springfield…The Pics merged with the New England Falcons who played out of Springfield then moved to Enfield. This is not news! There has been places for these young girls to play before they were even born. But as a female hockey player growing up it great to see more females play hockey.
