Medical Marijuana Ad Stirs Controversy
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) –An ad for Medical Marijuana is set to air on cable channels across Massachusetts starting next month.
It’s for MarijuanaDoctors.com, where folks can search for doctors in their area, who can legally prescribe it.
It’s already offended people in New York and New Jersey where it’s already airing.
Even though the city is moving forward with plans for medical marijuana dispensaries, Springfield City Councilor Clodo Concepcion doesn’t like the idea of it. period. “This is going to create a lot of problems for the police. They are going to come and break in to buy marijuana and whether they say it is medical, I can buy whatever I want and give it to my friends and they can smoke it. Now we got enough of that. I don’t want that,” he said.
Councilor Melvin Edwards has a different view.
“The voters vote it being a legal product. It’s a little late to be angry about a commercial and it’s a little different but it’s not, it’s nothing that would constitute as unsavory or inappropriate. As a matter of fact, you know kind of comical with the sushi,” Edwards stated.
When we showed it to other people, they all agreed. “No. It’s just funny, the way he says it ‘I got everything you need. I got all types of sushi.’” laughed Carlos Isaac.
“I don’t think it’s good to buy off of the streets because you never know what people are doing to it nowadays. But as far as it being medical, then that means its legal if you need it, then it’s worth it,” Lashawna Stewart shared.
Edwards says the council is working on things like zoning for dispensaries…and possibly looking at old banks as places for them.
If you’re worried about it reaching kids, Comcast says they plan to air the commercials between 10pm and 5am, and not during any children’s programming.
