UMass Student Sports Reporters Raising Money to Cover NCAA Tournament
AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) — There’s a good chance the UMass Minutemen basketball team will get a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Both the student-run newspaper and radio station want to cover the team, but don’t have the funds to do it.
So they’re both appealing to the community for help.
Both organizations are accepting online donations.
The UMass Daily Collegian is looking for raise $5,000, while WMUA-FM is hoping to raise $1,000 or more.
“This is a rare feat for the school to be going to the tournament. We’ve been covering them all year, so we wanted the opportunity to give the best coverage possible,” says Patrick Strohecker, Assistant Sports Editor at the Collegian.
Chris Doherty, Sports Production Director at WMUA, adds, “We’d be doing live broadcasts through WMUA, covering all UMass games when they’re there, 15 minute pregame, post-game, we’d be there whenever UMass is playing.”
