Former Pro-Football Player Visits Chicopee School

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Black History Month may be over, but not for some students at Fairview Middle School in Chicopee.

The students celebrated Black History Month throughout February with poetry readings, and poster and essay contests.

Thursday, students celebrated 16 years of Black History with retired pro-football player Billy McBride as the main speaker.

“We have about four groups of students in there who are completely engaged and embrace it. It’s also important to our school. We have a very diverse school that we celebrate the differences in the community that we have within our school. March, May, June why a month? It’s appropriate to celebrate achievements of poeple who have contributed, our forefathers any time,” explains principal Kris Theriault

McBride gave the students a motivational speech, telling them that the best people in his life were his teachers.
