SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Ten suspected drug dealers have been arrested by Springfield Police.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, following a month-long investigation into Heroin distribution, detectives conducted raids at homes at 9 Orchard Street, 29 Orchard Street, and an apartment at 100 Division Street.

During the raids, seven people were arrested and investigators reportedly seized Heroin, Cocaine, Class E pills, and Marijuana, as well as $4,601 in cash.

Arrested during those raids were:

  • Ramon Luis Melendez, 30, of Springfield
  • Victor Moctezuma, 25, of Springfield

  • Joseph Ortiz, 20, of Springfield

Those seven suspects are facing several charges including conspiracy, possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and violation of a Drug-Free School Zone.

Delaney adds that on Thursday morning, around 4:15, officers on-patrol in the Boston Road area noticed a car parked in the parking lot of Boston Market, with the driver sleeping and the engine running.

“The officers could observe with the illumination of their flashlights that the sleeping man had a white powdery substance covering his lap and bags of Marijuana,” Delaney explains, adding that officers then woke the driver, identified as 27-year-old Brandon Chambers of Springfield, and had him exit the car.

Investigators reportedly seized a digital scale, a Marijuana grinding tool, packaging materials, cell phones, seven bags of Heroin, a bag of Cocaine, a bag of Heroin, and $1,100.

Chambers was arrested and charged with possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, and possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.

In a third incident, investigators with the department’s Street Crime Unit reportedly saw two women involved in a drug deal near Saratoga Street and Dwight Street extension.

The women, identified by police as 28-year-old Nicole Madru and 27-year-old Jessica Chaclas, both of Springfield, were seen getting into a van.

Delaney says that officers pulled the van over a short time later and found 21 bags of Heroin and 3 grams of Crack Cocaine, and $1,891 in cash in the van.

Madru has been charged with possession of Heroin and Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, while Chaclas is charged with distribution of Cocaine.

Arraignments in all the cases are scheduled for Thursday in Springfield District Court.
