Springfield School Committee Adds Teachers to Bullying Policy

Morgan school Holyoke pkgSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Bullying in schools is not just about protecting the students anymore. At the Springfield School Committee meeting Thursday night, teachers were added to the list.

The school committee approved changes to its bullying policy. In the past the rules for reporting bullying only covered students, but now anti-bullying measures are in place to cover teachers as well.

“That policy was expanded to include the bullying of or by staff members. Just to ensure we create a safe environment and cultural environment for not only students, but also staff,” said Azell Cavaan, Chief Communications Officer for Springfield Public Schools.

The committee said it made the change ahead of a state-wide mandated revision.
