Study: Playing With Barbie Limits Girls’ Career Outlook
(CNN/WGGB) – Playing with Barbies could limit how girls view their career choices.
That’s according to an experiment conducted recently by a researcher at Oregon University.
In the study, a small group of 37 girls were asked to play with either a Barbie doll, or a Mrs. Potato Head. After a few minutes, the girls were asked about possible careers.
Those girls who played with the Barbies thought they could do fewer jobs than boys, while those with Mrs. Potato Head thought they could do about the same.
That study was published in the journal Sex Roles.
