SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — One teen is in custody, after Springfield Police caught him breaking into a garage in the Indian Orchard neighborhood. And police say it was neighbors in the area that tipped police off to the breaking and entering.

Springfield Police say Marquan Moriarty, 19, was arrested while breaking into a garage at 306 Goodwin St. Wednesday morning, trying to steal a motorcycle. The neighbor who witnessed the crime called police and gave a full suspect description.

Officers in the area responded and heard noises coming from the garage, according to a post on Springfield Police’s Facebook page. They asked the suspect to show himself, and Moriarty stuck his head out of a window. He then retreated into the garage and officers went in after him.

Moriarty is being charged with breaking and entering and larceny, among other charges.

Springfield Police say the arrest shows the value of keeping an eye out in your neighborhood and getting to know the area in which you live.
