Above the Rim: Putnam Repeats as WMass Champs, Central Girls Take Home Crown

AMHERST, Ma (WGGB)—-Putnam dominated from the opening tip, beating West Springfield 77-58, for their second consecutive Western Mass title.

The Beavers had five players scoring double digits, senior forward David Murrell lead the way with 20 points.

Putnam will be in action again on Tuesday as they take on Centrall Mass champion St. John’s for the right to go back to the state championship game. That game will tipoff Tuesday at 7:30pm at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.

Division I girls were also in action tonight as Central took home the Western Mass crown. The Golden Eagles held off Northampton, 49-35, in coach Erik Maurer’s second season with the program.

Central will also be in action this Tuesday at the MassMutual taking on the Central Mass champs. The girls game will tipoff just before the boys at 5:45.
