Springfield City Council Announces Plans for Campanile Project

Springfield curfewSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Springfield announced plans for the Campanile Project at City Hall Friday.

The restoration project is projected to cost $20 million due to the extensive structural repair from age and exposure, including cracks on the tower’s exterior and lots of rust on the steel interior.

The Campanile Project includes the restoration of the twelve large bronze bells of the carillon along with structural repair and waterproofing of the Belfry clock tower.

It’s expected to take three years to raise the $20 million in municipal, state and federal funding, as well as private donations.
