Library Express at Pine Point Opens

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) —  A Springfield library branch once slated for closing is back open for business.

The Pine Point library on Boston Road closed last November when the city decided to consolidate its branch libraries.

It reopened with a ribbon cutting this morning as the new Library Express at Pine Point. It’s home to a smaller collection of books and materials than before.

The library will also be used by people in the neighborhood and for an expanded adult literacy program. The city spent $750,000 to renovate and equip the former Pine Point library.

The Liberty Street branch library was also closed last year. There’s an effort underway for it to reopen as a neighborhood senior center.
