Stockbridge Worker Fired Despite Acquittal

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — The Stockbridge Select Board has fired a town worker even though he was cleared of charges he sexually molested five girls while working at area elementary schools.

Scott Muir was fired from his jobs as facilities manager and emergency services director at the board’s meeting this week.

The 39-year-old Muir was acquitted in January of all 19 charges that he allegedly sexually assaulted students between the ages of 8 and 10 while a school counselor.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that town officials did not discuss their reasons for firing Muir.

Muir’s lawyer said the board’s reasoning was that he is an at-will employee who can be fired for no reason and some residents are concerned about his presence at town hall.

The lawyer says Muir may sue the town.
