Potholes Strike Again, This Time in Westfield
WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Jimmy Smith is so annoyed, when he saw us on Shaker Road, he pulled over to talk about what happened to him. “This is ridiculous, you know? It’s not being taken care of anywhere in town. The hole that I had hit measured 12 inches deep,” he said.
It ended up costing smith $750. “3 weeks ago. That night it was raining. I blew the tire. There was a police car on Springdale with a flatbed truck. I drove to the bottom of the hill, where another flatbed was loading another car w/ a flat!” Smith exclaimed.
That was on Springdale Road, which is in bad condition.
When drivers try to navigate around one pothole, they end up in another. “I tell ya, if I hit that, I got a ’92 Buick. If i was to hit that right there, it would take the whole right side out of my car,” stated a frustrated Chris Roberts.
Roberts says he’s seen DPW crews out at least 3 or 4 times patching potholes up.
The DPW tells us that they know everyone is frustrated with road conditions, and crews got an early start fixing some of them.
As for the massive potholes that line both roads, those were scheduled to be filled up as soon as the more permanent hot patch plants open. Originally thought to be Monday, it’s now pushed back to Tuesday.
The DPW says they’re also dealing with a string of potholes on streets where they’d never had them before.
If a pothole in Westfield damaged your car, you can file a claim with the law department at City Hall.
