Fire Fighters Come Together for “Route 5 Rumble Cup”

3-15 RUMBLE CUPHOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Firefighters from five cities came together for the annual “Route 5 Rumble Cup” Saturday.

The grudge match between Holyoke and West Springfield Firrefighters was at Fitzpatrick Skating Arena.

This year’s match will benefit the “Victory 4 Veterans” organization and the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home.

Victory for Veterans started three years ago, with an annual motorcycle ride, and has continued to grow.

“The organization has actually morphed into far more than just a run. It’s now become a movement and our organization is growing, so we’re adding some additional programming and additional fundraising opportunities like today’s hockey event,” said Ryan Flannery, of the West Springfield Firefighter’s Association and the Director of Victory for Veterans.

Flannery says Victory 4 Veterans has been able to donate $27,000 to the Soldiers’ Home so far from these type of events.

The West Springfield Firefighters won today’s rumble cup by a score of 7 to 5 over the Holyoke Firefighters’ Hockey Club.
