Putnam Basketball Honored at City Hall

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.(WGGB)—Putnam’s boys basketball was honored Thursday at Springfield City Hall for their accomplishments this year. The Beavers went an undefeated 25-0 this season en route to their second straight Division I State Championship. ¬†Players and coaches were met by Mayor Sarno and other city officials to be commended for their efforts both on and off the basketball court.

Head Coach William Shepard spoke to the teams strengths at battling through adversity.

At the end of last year I read a quote to these guys from Abraham Lincoln,” explained Shepard. ” He said ‘I’ve seen many men overcome adversity, but to test a man’s true character, give him power.’ We took that to mean that we had a responsibility not only to the student body at Putnam but also the city of Springfield.”
