A “Peep” into Yankee Candle’s Production Line
SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — You are getting a rare look inside the largest candle production line in North America.
For nearly half a century, Yankee Candle has personified the sweet smell of success in Western Massachusetts.
One hundred different fragrances will permeate these jars daily, but it’s their latest line that has captured the fancy of all us spring chickens.
Wade Bassett runs the Yankee Candle Village store.
“It’s our first day of spring here at Yankee Candle Village and throughout New England and we have really had a great success here with our Marshmallow Chick candle. It’s got a really great fragrance to it and our guests love it,” Bassett explains.
That’s right – marshmallow Peeps are now not just a treat for your taste buds. The sugary scent of spring has been captured in wax, along with other unique spring scents.
Bassett adds, “We’ve got Chocolate Bunny and one that’s returning that is very popular from last year is our Bunny Cake as well.”
The fragrances are spot on, which is what you would expect from a company that produces 1.2 million jar candles a week.
These lines run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They fill the shelves of stores like their flagship location – Yankee Candle Village.
“It’s very traditional for a lot of folks. They have been coming for years and years. We started this store in 1983, so we celebrated 30 years last year and with a ton of stories with people who grew up here that are now bringing their kids here as well,” Bassett says.
Yankee Candle Village is heaven for all your senses. Intoxicating and interactive and it’s impossible for kids to walk by the Peeps display without lifting a lid and taking a sniff.
“They have the same reaction. I do, as an adult. It just ties in really great with that spring feel, not to mention we have a wax works area as well that’s extremely popular with the kids, so you can be a candle maker for a day here at the store.”
And back where these jars of joy take shape, the lines move uninterrupted.
About 35,000 retailers to satisfy an ever-increasing international appetite for Yankee Candles is proof that the iconic product makes everyone was nostalgic.
“Every fragrance resonates with memories with our guests and I think that’s the most important thing.”
