Over a Dozen Geriatric Authority Employees Receive Layoff Notices
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — More layoffs are announced Friday at the Geriatric Authority of Holyoke.
Due to ongoing financial problems, the Geriatric Authority is closing .
The census of 72 patients is now down to under 40, as patients are placed in other nursing homes in the area.
So far, fifteen employees have been laid-off. according to the union.
“It’s by classification, so you have different job classifications in there – LPNs, RNs, CNAs, dietary. When the census dropped, management takes a look at where they need to cut and then we take the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement and apply those by seniority,” explains union representative Tyrone Housey.
Housey says the layoffs will continue as more and more of the patients are transferred out of the Holyoke facility.
