Dick & Rick Hoyt Honored as JFK Award Winners

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Holyoke’s St. Patrick’s Parade Committee honored its 57th JFK Award winners tonight during a reception at the Log Cabin.

Dick and Rick Hoyt are the winners this year. The JFK Award is presented each year to an Irish-American who has distinguished themselves in their field or profession.

“Rick & I lived in Westfield for 20 years & we used to run this place every year. It used to be a 7 mile race. Then they cut out all the hills, so now it’s a 10k. For us to be out there, you know, when we were running it, there were like 400 runners. Now there are like 7,000. And for the first time in his life, Rick got to be able to shoot the shotgun to start the race today. It was just unbelievable to see him, and he was just so excited to do it,” Dick Hoyt said.

The 63rd annual St. Patrick’s parade steps off tomorrow at noon.
