ABC40 Honor Roll – St. Michael’s 8th Graders Take Part in Design Competition

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Eighth graders from St. Michael’s Academy in Springfield are competing to design the region’s next charter school.

The students are competing in front of the Northeast regional jury for the Schools of Future Design.

Seven students have been working all year on the project. winning their school division and moving on to regionals.

Students went out into the community, found a location to build the school, then created the model out of recycled materials.

Eighth grader, Nora Markey, says that the experience taught her a lot. “Each group member brought something different to the table, so we capitalized on each individual’s strengths, and we built on that, then we made decisions together as a team, we worked together and it brought us a lot closer,” she says.

Students spent months planning blue prints, building the model, and practicing in front of an in-house jury.

We always like to hear about the good things going on in your school – just let us know! Send all the information along with pictures and video if you have it to 40inthemorning@wggb.com
