Armor Start Season-Ending Road Swing with 100-95 Loss to Maine
PORTLAND, Maine (WGGB) — With the Springfield Armor out of the playoff picture, they are still hoping to end their season with a bang. But, they have to do it on a five-game road trip that will close the 2013-14 season.
It didn’t start well Sunday night, as they fell to the Maine Red Claws 100-95. The loss dropped Springfield to a record of 20-26, but wouldn’t have helped them get anywhere closer to playoff contention.
The Armor fell behind in the first half by 26 points, they began to battle their way back. Springfield shot just 17 percent from the field in the first quarter, but recovered to score more than 90 points in the game.
Down 41-15 in the second quarter, the Armor put together a 16-0 run to get themselves back into the game, and even take the lead in the fourth.
Willie Reed was the highlight for the Armor Sunday, as he earned his 11th-straight double-double, with 20 points and 18 rebounds.
But Maine used hot shooting from the outside and 19 points from Abdul Gaddy to get a narrow victory.
The Armor won’t play again until Friday night, when they face the Mad Ants in Fort Wayne at 7:30 p.m.
