Man Expected to be Charged Following Amherst Lockdown
AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) — A man, who is currently being held in jail, is expected to be charged following a lockdown incident Wednesday in Amherst.
School officials said Wednesday that an “an unaccompanied adult male was discovered” in the middle school.
As a precaution, the middle school, along with Wildwood School and Amherst Regional High School, were placed into lockdown.
Amherst Police Chief Scott Livingstone explains that officers responded and found that this person was let in “under proper protocols,” but at some point, the man reportedly had “a conversation with some students in the boys room.”
By the time police arrived, the man was gone, but investigators were able to determine who it was.
That person, at this point, has only been identified as a 24 year old man from Amherst, and Livingstone explains that he is currently in custody at the House of Correction in Northampton on charges unrelated to the Amherst incident.
Livingstone expects that charges against that man could come in the next few days.
