Mom of Missing Mass. Boy Held on $100,000 Bail

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The mother of a missing 5-year-old Fitchburg boy who hasn’t been seen in months has pleaded not guilty to additional charges in the case.

Elsa Oliver was ordered held on $100,000 bail at her Worcester Superior Court arraignment Friday on charges including kidnapping, assault and reckless endangerment. That’s the same bail she’s been detained on since her district court arraignment.

Her son, Jeremiah Oliver, was last seen by relatives in September but wasn’t reported missing until December. Authorities fear he is dead. The family was being monitored by state social workers at the time.

The 28-year-old Oliver at one point Friday indicated that she wanted to represent herself in court proceedings, but the judge talked her out of it.

Her court-appointed attorney says Oliver has emotional and mental health issues.

Seriously? If she’s dumb enough to want to represent herself against such serious charges, let her! It’ll make the whole process faster and we can get her convicted and off to jail right away. One of them is eventually going to flip on the other. That poor baby needs to be laid to rest properly.
