Cell Service Significantly Damaged in North Adams After Weather

rainNORTH ADAMS, Mass. (wggb) – Strong winds and heavy rain are to blame for causing the collapse of two radio towers on top of Florida Mountain in North Adams. The damage is now causing loss of or significant interruption of cell and internet services in the area. As a result, the North Adams Department of Public Safety has issued a public emergency message this morning.

They are asking that if you need assistance and don’t have cell service to use a land line to make calls.

The North Adams Police Department will also be monitoring it’s Facebook page in case someone is unable to contact Public Safety by telephone.

They are also assuring residents that they are fully staffed in the event of any emergencies.

An Emergency Operations Center has been established in North Adams where a number of state agencies are actively involved in developing short and long-term solutions to the problem.

It’s currently unknown how long it may take to repair the towers.
