Coastal Storm Brings Big Rains to Western Mass.

RAINTOTALSSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – The weekend storm continues to move away but it certainly brought us a ton of rainfall. Before this weekend it was a rather dry March but after picking up 2 to 3 1/2″ of rain we’ve certainly caught up.

Small rivers and streams continue to run high. In fact, The Ware River is at flood stage and there is a Flood Warning in effect for the river and the small rivers and streams that flow into it until 3pm this afternoon. This includes eastern parts of Hampden and Hampshire Counties.

On top of the rain parts of the valley picked up a coating to 2″ of sleet and snow causing lots of slippery roads and icy spots, just in time for the morning commute. This will continue to melt away as we move into the afternoon.
