EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — Firefighters were able to quickly knock down a fire in downtown Easthampton.

Crews were called out to 124 Cottage Street around 1:45 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say that it appears the fire, which was contained to one apartment above Nini’s Restaurant, appears to have started near or inside a piece of overstuffed furniture.

Mutual aid was called in from Holyoke, Southampton, and Northampton, in part, because of the construction of the building.

Two apartments were impacted by the fire, and two residents have been displaced.

Nini’s, which was not open at the time of the fire, suffered some water damage, according to fire officials.

The fire caused between $80,000 and $90,000 in damage.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Easthampton Fire and officials with the state fire marshal’s office.
