Forest Park Zoo Opens Its Doors for The Season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – It was a good day for animals lovers at the Forest Park Zoo Saturday.

After a delayed start due to cold weather, the zoo officially opened their doors for the season. Although temperatures are still a bit too old for some of the animals, the zoo and it’s new mascot have a lot in store for visitors.

“We were schedules to open last Monday, but because of Mother Nature and the snow storm we received Monday, we were busy trying to clean up the zoo from that. So this is typically when we open and it has to be 50 degrees or higher for three consecutive nights for a lot of our animals to come out. So what you see here today is just a touch of what we have coming for the season,” said Darlene Blaney, Forest Park Zoo Business Manager.

The zoo will be open until the end of November.
