Flu Season Continues Through April
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB)- Flu season peaks in the middle of winter, but you are not out of the clear yet. Many healthcare facilities are busy now treating people with the flu.
Influenza “A” was the common diagnosis throughout most of the winter, but now doctors are starting to see influenza “B.” It’s possible to catch the flu any time of year, but there are more cases than usual for the month of April.
“At this point the influenza vaccine is no longer available, so the main thing is if they have those symptoms to see a health care professional. There are some medications that can be used such as Tamiflu,” says Marie Vitale at Doctors Express in West Springfield.
Allergy patients are also on the rise, but those symptoms: runny nose, sore throat, and itchy eyes, are much different than the high fever, body aches, and severe sore throat that comes with the flu.
