HOLYOKE (WGGB) — Holyoke Police arrested an armed man who they say led them on a chase Thursday night.

Officers responded to the area of 470 Maple Street around 9:30 p.m., because of reports that there was a man with a handgun.

As police entered the building and went up the front stairs, several suspects ran out the back staircase.

Other officers on the stairs to the rear porches saw the suspects, one of whom ran away. Officers chased him for several blocks before catching him and placing him under arrest.

He had a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with 9 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was identified as Angel Hernandez-Carino, 19, of Springfield. He is being charged with breaching the building while armed, carrying a firearm without a license to carry, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and resisting arrest.

He will be arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Friday.
