Grey's Anatomy Recap: "I'm Winning"
This time, Cristina Yang gets nominated for a Harper Avery Award, though she’s hesitant to celebrate since she hasn’t actually won the award yet. But Shane is pretty cocky about it and acts like he’s partially responsible for the award. Because of that, Stephanie pulls her swap monkey card and forces him to work with Dr. Bailey in her stead.
Working with Bailey is initially uneventful because she’s a little envious that her former interns have been so successful. Besides Cristina’s prestigious nomination, Meredith is working on a groundbreaking surgery. But when a transplant donor goes back on his word, Bailey has to step in to save the day, pushing Meredith out of the surgery that ends up giving Bailey inspiration in her own trial.
Elsewhere in the hospital, April gives Jackson a hard time because he’s not frugal enough. He doesn’t really listen when he uses his black credit card to pay for a private jet to help a patient whose life Cristina saves, which makes her even more beloved in the hospital. All of this attention is starting to make Meredith jealous now.
As part of their trial, Derek and Callie get a machine that measures emotions. During testing, it shows that Callie is actually depressed, much to her surprise. The machine is triggered when Meredith comes in with baby Bailey, making Callie realize that she does want another child. Fortunately, Arizona realizes that she wants Sofia to have a sibling, so they agree to have another baby.
Also, after Alex realizes the importance of money when it comes to medicine, he calls Dr. Butthole and tells him that he’s interested in the job, so there’s a big possibility that he’ll leave Grey Sloan.
Cristina does eventually celebrate her Harper Avery nomination privately with a bottle of champagne with Owen, who says he thinks she’s going to win. Her reply? “Me too.”
Will you be sad if Alex really leaves the hospital?
