Boston Police Officer Honored for Bravery Post 2013 Marathon Bombings, Has Died

Boston_Police_patchBOSTON, Mass. (WGGB) – Boston Police Officials are mourning the loss of one of their own.

28-year-old Dennis O. Simmonds passed away while on-duty Thursday.

He was rushed to the hospital after suffering a medical emergency and passed away later that evening.

Simmonds was recently honored at the Boston Police Relief Association Awards Ceremony for his bravery during the initial Watertown shoot-out following the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

He was a member of the Boston Police Department for six years. He was appointed in 2008 and assigned to District B-3. In 2012 he became a member of the Youth Violence Strike Force.
