Chicopee Fire Trying to Determine What Caused Fireball, Small Explosion in Backyard

ChicopeeFireCHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) – Chicopee Fire Department, along with State Police, are trying to determine what caused a fireball and small explosion in a Chicopee backyard.

Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Crevier told ABC 40 they received a call for a small explosion at 80 Blanchwood Ave., where a few youths were having a fire pit in the backyard of a home they were renting.

Crevier said apparently something was thrown into the pit, which caused a fireball and a loud bang with a possible explosion.

State Police was called in with a K-9 unit to see if there were any flammable liquids in the area.

It was unclear what was thrown into the fire, but Crevier added there were no injuries and there was no structural damage to the house.
