A Pleasant Afternoon; Weekend Rain Still on the Way

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – It was a cold start to the day! Temperatures got down into the 20′s and 30′s!

In fact, the temperature at Westover Air Reserve Base dipped to 27 degrees, just two away from the record low of 25 which was set in 1950.

However, temperatures will continue to climb fast as we go into the afternoon.  Today will turn out to be a beautiful day with highs reaching well up into the 60′s.

The winds are a lot lighter today as well so the brush fire threat is a lot lower!  The sun will continue to get  filtered by thin clouds at times, especially as we head into the evening but over all today is looking fine!

High pressure supplying us with the nice conditions today will be kicked out-to-sea and replaced by an area of low pressure tomorrow. This will cause clouds to thicken up this evening with rain arriving after mid-night. It will stay dry for your evening plans so unless you are staying out real late (after 2am-ish)  you can keep the umbrella at home.

However, rain will come down moderate to heavy at times for most of tomorrow morning so any outdoor plans through the first half of the day will likely be washed out.

It does not look good for the Little League games, at least through early afternoon.

An embedded rumble of thunder is possible too.  Rainfall estimates will likely range from  1/2″ and 1″ – just what we need after only 1/4″ of rain or less in the past 10 days.

During tomorrow afternoon the rain will taper off to a few showers, as some drier air gets pulled into the system.  This may allow for a few peaks of sunshine but don’t count on much because this is not the end of the story.

Upper-level energy swings through tomorrow evening and night which could trigger some additional shower activity as it turns even cooler and blustery.

Sunday will feature mostly cloudy skies with a few leftover showers as the upper-level energy (very slowly) pulls away, we should see gradual improvements and perhaps some sun during the afternoon. It will stay breezy and cool though with highs in the low to mid-50′s.

Have a great weekend!
