South Hadley Woman Donates Kidney to Her Mother

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A touching story as a daughter gives her mother a live-saving donation.

Tammy Crochiere of South Hadley donated a kidney to her mother, Joanne, at Baystate Medical Center.

That transplant took place Wednesday and today, they invited us into their recovery room at Baystate to talk about it.

“It’s amazing. To be able to give her life, its indescribable. She gave me life, so as soon as I found out I could become her donor, there was no doubt in my mind, that I was going to do this for her,” Tammy explains.

Joanne adds, “I’d been so sick before all of this that I never thought I could feel like this again. Tammy gave me back a part of my life.”

Doctors say both mom and daughter are doing very well following the Wednesday transplant and each is just about ready to go home.

April is national donate life month and the 40 Force is here to help you become a donor.

On Monday, we’ll have members from Life Choice at our studios to help you sign up.

We’ll also have medical experts and real life stories from those who have benefited from donations.

Come to our ABC40 studios at 1300 Liberty Street anytime from noon to 6:30 p.m. Monday
